In 2013 Zimmerman and Wahpeton Elementary started a program called Watch D.O.G.S. Our goal is to get student's fathers (and father-figures) to volunteer in their child's school. Statistics show that by having fathers more involved, children develop more fully socially, physically, academically, and emotionally. When you volunteer it also shows your child that they, and their education, are important to you.

When volunteering you will spend time in your child's classroom helping the teacher and students with activities such as reading to students or being read to, helping with math games, recess, gym games, school projects, flashcards, etc. You will also have the opportunity to spend time in other classrooms so that more students can benefit from your presence as a role model. In addition, you will be able to have lunch with your child (free lunch is provided).

If you are interested in volunteering please complete the steps below. 

1) Complete the registration below.  This has to be done one time a year and is used for background checks.  
2)  Submit the registration to Ms. Julie at Wahpeton Elementary.
2) Once you have received a confirmation email, you will decide on a date that works for you and email or call Ms. Julie (Wahpeton Elem) or Ms. Jenn (Zimmerman) to schedule (if you didn’t already put it on your registration).  Zimmerman has Watch Dogs on Friday afternoons only.  When contacting us, please include if you plan to be a Watch Dog during the first or second half of the day.  Please also specify your size, as you will receive a free shirt to where as a uniform for the day and keep. 
4)Show up!  
 

What to Expect: When you arrive you will complete a short orientation preparing you for the day, along with receiving a schedule and map to guide you along,  You will be invited to be part of the morning announcements and then get the opportunity to help during gym, lunch, recess, classrooms and other places throughout the school lending a helping hand! Our Watch DOGS report the day is a really fun and positive experiences for not only our students, but themselves!
