Watch D.O.G.S
In 2013 Zimmerman and Wahpeton Elementary started a program called Watch D.O.G.S. Our goal is to get student's fathers (and father-figures) to volunteer in their child's school. Statistics show that by having fathers more involved, children develop more fully socially, physically, academically, and emotionally. When you volunteer it also shows your child that they, and their education, are important to you.
When volunteering you will spend time in your child's classroom helping the teacher and students with activities such as reading to students or being read to, helping with math games, recess, gym games, school projects, flashcards, etc. You will also have the opportunity to spend time in other classrooms so that more students can benefit from your presence as a role model. In addition, you will be able to have lunch with your child (free lunch is provided).
If you would like to learn more about the program you can check out the official Watch D.O.G. website at: https://dadsofgreatstudents.com/
If you are interested in volunteering please complete the steps below. We are using SignUp.com to organize our Watch Dog volunteers, they do not share your email address with anyone. If you prefer not to use your email address, please contact me directly ([email protected])
What to Expect: When you arrive you will complete a short orientation preparing you for the day, along with receiving a schedule and map to guide you along, You will be invited to be part of the morning announcements and then find yourself in the gym, lunch, recess, classrooms and other places throughout the school lending a helping hand! Our Watch DOGS report really fun and positive experiences for not only our students, but themselves!
If you have any questions, Ms. Julie coordinates the program and she can be contacted at (701)672-5215 or [email protected]. We hope to see you soon!
