In 2013 Zimmerman and Wahpeton Elementary started a program called Watch D.O.G.S. Our goal is to get student's fathers (and father-figures) to volunteer in their child's school. Statistics show that by having fathers more involved, children develop more fully socially, physically, academically, and emotionally. When you volunteer it also shows your child that they and their education is important to you.
When volunteering you will spend time in your child's classroom helping the teacher and students with activities such as reading to students or being read to, helping with math games, recess, school projects, flashcards, etc. You will also have the opportunity to spend time in other classrooms so that more students can benefit from your presence as a role model. In addition, you will be able to have lunch with your child (free lunch is provided).
If you would like to learn more about the program you can check out the official Watch D.O.G. website at:

What to Expect: When you arrive you will complete a short orientation preparing you for the day, along with receiving a schedule and map to guide you along. For safety reasons to easily identifying our volunteers, we ask that you wear a Watch Dog shirt. If you do not have a shirt, one will be borrowed to you for the day. Shirts are available for purchase at official national website linked above. You will be invited to be part of the morning announcements and then find yourself in the gym, lunch, recess, classrooms and other places throughout the school lending a helping hand! Our Watch DOGS report really fun and positive experiences for not only our students, but themselves!
We hope to see you soon!
